Olden Community Gardens
  • Home

The Olden Community Garden is a two-acre (0.8 hectare) oasis of beauty and retreat from the busy streets of Islington. The Garden was started some thirty years ago in 1986, and became the Olden Community Garden (registered charity 1158105) in August 2014.

It is a walled garden with a top terrace of beautiful herbaceous borders, lawn and patio. On the lower slopes there is an orchard, a meadow, vegetable beds and a greenhouse. In springtime, there are blossoms, daffodils and bluebells. There is also a peaceful path through the woodland.

The Garden is looked after by around 200 key-holding Members and other regular volunteers. It is used by the wider community, including groups from City & Islington College and Drayton Park Primary School to learn about horticulture and woodlands. Private individuals, voluntary groups, and social organisations enjoy the site and its facilities.

The Garden has a strong emphasis on sustainable, organic gardening, with water harvesting and compositing, and areas of natural habitat.

The Garden, and a well equipped garden house with toilet are available to hire for private functions. There is wheelchair access to all areas of the top terrace, and a disabled access WC.

The gate opposite 22 Whistler Street Highbury N5 1NH is open to the general public on all Volunteer Days which are: Weekly on Wednesdays, 10 am to 4 pm, and Monthly on the 3rd Saturday of every month, between 10 am – 4 pm.

We would love to show you around our wonderful garden.
